Have a Question for Cat Lovers

A beautiful stray happened upon us 3 years ago during a frigid winter spell and of course I made her a protected bed outside and fed her, needless to say she has stayed a spell and we've fallen in love with her.

Can our Magoo ever be domesticated?  I believe she was at one time because she was never afraid of me or our dog.

Does "never afraid" mean that Magoo allows you to pet her and handle her? If so, then I think its possible you could make her a trained house-cat.

My family had a stray cat show up at our place to eat the food from our own cats' dishes. No matter how many times we chased her away, she kept coming back. After a while, we decided to just accept her. Once we did, she became much more tame. She kept doing #2 on Mom's trees, though, so we wound up taking her to the shelter.

Another time we had a cat move in with a whole litter of kittens. They were all scared of people, except for one kitten, which would let us pick it up and pet it.

So I would say give the cat a shot at domestication (and don't forget its literal shots;)).

It seems like it could likely work if she is not afraid. Is it just a question of letting her be indoors? My cats have all been strays from varying situations, and all have adapted well. I hope it works!

regfife gave you some great advice.
If Magoo lets you pick her up and handle her, without freaking out, then I say give it a try as a house cat (I assume that's what you mean by domesticated?)
If she's been with you 3 years already and seems happy, is there a reason to interrupt her routine now?
I'm just curious - my vote is to have her inside because inside cats live longer, healthier lives - but she's a full-grown adult. And she may just be happier with her current routine.
She sure is a beauty, though!!!

Thanks for the replys.
Magoo does let us touch her, she and the dog lick on another and she also will lay on her back with her belly fully exposed and our dog Winston and step right over her without a flinch.
I really do love this kitty and I want her to live a long time with us.
I was raised a dog person and this cat is my first exposure.

When she lies on her back it is her showing that she respects you as the Alpha Cat. It's an affectionate way of saying, "You're boss, give me some love to validate me."
