Turning Down EC Adverts

Have you ever turned down someone wanting to advertise their EC Advert on your blog?

Under what circumstances would you turn them down and then how would you do it, what would you say if anything at all?
Do you check out the blog before you agree to advertise?  Would it matter if that site had loud or offensive music or talk?
Would you judge a person's blog by the advert that's running or do you even pay any attention?

The longer Entrecard is around and the more people in the world that come to participate the more these issues may matter to some people.

What other kind of things concern you about EC?

I always check the blog first, and, yes, I have turned ad requests down.

Without wishing to cause offense to anybody, I just select 'Not appropriate' As a Christian, there are some blogs that I just can't endorse and wouldn't have on my blog.

I did turn one down the other day because when I clicked through, I was faced with an instant re-direct to a full page ad. I then had to select to go to back the blog! No way do I want that card on my blog either.

Yes, I am fussy and I choose quality over credits :O)

That's good to know, thank you for your input. Do you ever check upcoming adverts you've placed on someone's blog to ensure nothing has drastically changed with their blog since you applied?

I'd reject somebody who had autoplay music or an ad on their blog but I'm pretty lenient. X-rated blogs would probably get rejected too.

By ad, I mean one of those full page ads that Babs was mentioning. Sidebar widgets and Google ads are to be expected.

I've actually turned down a couple of advertisers because their widget just didn't seem like anything I would want on my blog. I guess that explains why you can buy a spot on my blog for only 16 ec! I'm a cheap buy!

I hate to say this but you guys might as well be speaking a foreign language....please translate! What exactly is advertising EC Advert? Also what is a widget? I guess I am behind the times on blogging and blogspeak. Normally I am pretty hip on this kind of stuff but I guess I need a little lesson to keep me up to speed.
Peace,
Diva

Not for my own but for my daughter's blog I've turned down a couple ads. She's only 8 and I'm very cautious about what's appropriate to appear on her blog.

I'm so glad to hear that you are an involved parent when it comes to the computer.
I'm glad my children are grown and that computers were not mainstream when they were that young.

ooh, this one is near and dear to me.

I turn down many advertisers and it's kept my price low but the quality high.

In order to advertise on my blog you must:

-have dropped on me at least once in the last month
-have relevant and unsponsored posts (no splogs)
-Be interesting and/or relevant (yes it's possible to be only one or the other)

If I see pay per post I run. I can sniff out yer sponsored advertising a million miles away and it's icky so I tend to skip it.

SEO and marketing blogs (with the exception of turnip) I skip them too.

If you check my Entrecard button each day you're guaranteed to find a blog worth reading.

That's my promise to you.

Hi there!
Normally I never turn down anyone. But lately I have seen some new blogs coming to Entrecard that makes me wonder if I will need to start thinking about who do approve or not. At least start looking closer into what kind of blog wants to put their card on my blog.
But I can sya I would now and always turn down X rated blogs because of so many different kinds of people visit my blog.

Hope you have a great up coming week!!

The few times someone has turned down my ads, it hurt a little. I got to wondering what is wrong with my site? But I guess there are some ads I would turn down. If the site has a lot of adult content I would turn it down. Sometimes is the design on the Entrecard isn't family friendly I would turn it down. But so far I have not turned down any ads.

I turn down ads that I think my site may not be appropriate for. Sounds funny I know, but with my type of humor and curse words sprinkled about not all sites should advertise with me. It proves they are advertising without checking ME!

I have turned down a few. But, I can say I haven't been a very faithful entrecard dropper. It's been hard just having time for Internet time lately. But, yes you helped my blog because I was just not clued in to how to be appropriate with music on my blog. But, thanks to Mamaflo I am now music friendly... Have a good day.

When I started using Entrecard as well as when the new pricing scheme came up I had to decline a lot of ads because these have been blogs which did not fit to my blog and readers at all or because when looking at this blog I had the impression they are just there to collect ECs to sell them afterwards.

However I have the same kind of policy for my daily dropping. I won't drop back on no content blogs, spam blogs, blogs with excessive ads and horrible audios which won't stop.

Luckily my ads became quite expensive now so I don't have to turn down any ad requests anymore.

Btw, thanks for accepting my ad on your blog today :-)

I look closely at the EntreCard itself. Would it look okay on my site? There are a few sites that I've rejected on that basis. Then I go and look at the site. I'm pretty lenient about what is on the site, but I haven't had problems with spam blogs, or other patently offensive blogs trying to advertise.

I do check out each site before I approve them. I rarely have turned away any sites, though - I do have my "lines" that I wouldn't cross, but fortunately have found few of those blogs on Entrecard.
I have had several sites turn down advertising from Captured By Gravity, and I'm okay with that - not ever blog is for every taste. I have other more "family-friendly" Entrecard blogs.
This was a good question!

I won't accept advertisers that have major cursing or disregard for other peoples lives.

Even though one of my blogs deals with video games. I won't accept adverts from people that promote things in sexual nature because I never know when a kid is online checking for cheat codes.

Shinade said...

Yes I too always check out the blog first.

But I found out that doesn't always work.

I approved one because it seemed like just a regular site talking about life, cooking and family and such.

Well, now I know the very same person also practices and runs another blog related to Paganism and Modern Witchcraft.

I found this out because she tried to buy an add under that blog.

As a Christian I do not turn down anyone who follows a faith based upon God and true faith.

But, I do not accept Witchcraft and Pagan blogs.

I also do not like filthy language. If I run across a blogger with a trashy mouth...I don't even drop, much less would I allow them to run an add.

However, I also have the you drop I link box. And now I am getting concerned about the people that are dropping on me just to get in that list.

I have contacted EC about this. But, if they don't figure out a way that we using this widget can delete drops that we don't want to be listed then I will have to remove the box.

Great question!!:-)))))

I actually had someone turn my advert turn because it didn't go with their blog's colors. I tend to think these particular blog owners are rather snooty anyway and it was only accidental that I had even clicked advertise on their doomahickey anyway. So it all worked out. It just proved my original belief, that they are snooty and possibly ridiculous.

As for what I approve, I really don't get too picky about this. The way I see it, unless it's x-rated, which would not be allowed, it's an opinion or a thought that someone else took the time to write down and it's just as valid as anything I have to say.

Now that being said, I wouldn't approve anything that I considered hateful either. If my black, jewish, yellowish-green, catholic,, etc.... friends wouldn't be welcome at a particular blog, then i would not be either. That goes for advertising, dropping, whatever.

MamaFlo said...

Nessa, are you serious, someone actually turned you away because the colors of your advert didn't match their blog design - well shit, shiver me timbers, I had no idea that Martha Stewart trolled the blogs of EC!!!! LOL
That has to be the silliest thing I've ever heard.
Thanks for the laugh and a wake up call about how crazy some people can be.

I've turned down a few as well, I usually check them out and drop my card, so they know I'm alive. I don't do paid posts, and I'd rather have someone on the page who had decent content rather than just ads and junk.

Jennifer Robin said...

I always check them first if I am not already familiar with their blog. I have turned down adverts for autoplay music and advertisements, blatant use of foul language, and widgets featuring "pretty" girls. There are so many people on EC now; you really have to be careful about the weirdos!

I always check out the site first. I'll usually only turn it down if it is nothing but a ad site (ads are ok but there needs to be good content as well) or if could be offensive to potential readers of my blog (i.e. bikini sites).
BTW - it was nice to get the thank-you email when I requested an ad on you site. That's a very nice personal touch.
