Am I a Senior?

I've been listed on the seniorsforliving.com site. Wow, I guess it's an honor but damn, I'm only going to be 53 this month. By the way, can you believe that today is July 1st already - OMG!! I guess officially I'm not a senior.....at least I'm not able to get senior prices anywhere, not yet at least, and I'm not old enough to collect my Social Security.
Does blogging as a retired Grandma automatically make me a senior?

At what age would you consider moving into smaller digs?
What kind of living environment would you downsize to - a smaller single family home, an apartment, a condo, or an active seniors development?

We've considered downsizing (and may have done it already had the economy not gotten soft) as our 3,300 sqft home is just too large for just the 2 of us. We have a large lot that we pay someone to cut, and we have a pool which someone does the chemicals and maintenance - we really don't need all this.
I don't want something too small, I don't want us to run into one another all the time, nor do I want to hear his TV blaring when I'm trying to listen to mine. I'm thinking that 1500-1800 sqft would be perfect. I'd love a condo (has to be single level living) closer to the city but damn they're expensive for something much smaller than 1,500 sq ft (more than what I could sell my 3,300 sq ft home for).
I like the idea of living in a complex with other people that are empty nesters, grandparents, retirees.

So, does blogging as a RETIRED GRANDMA automatically make me a SENIOR?

Let me and my husband move in! We'll keep up the yard and the pool. ;-)

And you certainly don't seem like a senior to me...though the discount would be nice

I had to chuckle...I will be 50 in another month...at which time I will be able to become an official AARP member. Currently, I am an associate member or something like that...and I receive the magazine. At 50, I will get the mature traveler discount for choice hotels, too!...woohoo!
I am dreading this new decade, but maybe between now and then I can achieve a better attitude about growing older.

Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't want to be "young" again, those days of working so hard to make ends meet seemed endless. I really like where my husband and I are at, early retirement and financially stable.
Turning 50 was glorious, I love my 50's!!
I simply don't feel like I'm a senior citizen "yet".

There are days I wonder how did I get to be this age. I kinda like it.

You are far from being a SENIOR. That happens when you get your welcome letter from Social Security. You will get prepared for this when you get your invitation to join AARP. I know being such a young grandmother has probably thrown off your equilibrium. As for moving to a condominium, if it's just the two of you, it's a great idea. We are in a townhouse and the association does all the yard and maintenance. I don't trip over my hubby, although his constant TV running is annoying. This will be solved soon when he finishes his den in the basement and will be spending most of his time there.

Depends (no pun intended!). If it involves a discount that I may be eligible for, like senior discount at Dunkin Donuts, the movies, museums, Kohls, hotels, ~ then yes, I'm a Senior. If not, then I'm what I consider a "Hot Mama," still. I ain't dead, yet!

Maybe it's because I'm in my 40's and still think in my head (in spite of what my ankles say...) that I'm in my 30's, that I don't think 53 qualifies as SENIOR!

Oh Mo, the best years are ahead of you! Your 50's will be fabulous!!

I think even when we get older we don't feel it...I still feel like I did when I was 27. My godmom (she took me in when I was 22 and and was mentally about 16) is 64 and still works and is still really active. I don't know about the senior thing...senior compared to what and who? Compared to a 22 year old, your a senior. To someone my age, definetly not! I say take the discount if you can get it though! I would! I take the student discount whenever I can...after all, I am a lifelong student.
Peace,
Diva

Oh and Mama, just to let you know, I wanna be more like you than my foster mom! I plan on retiring early like you and your hubby did and have been looking forward to retirement since I started workig "legit" jobs at 22. I always thought 9-5 work was for other people, not me! My god mom feels that work keeps her young and works a billion hours! I think working till your in your late 60's is crazy! I must admit, I did get a hell of a work ethic from my second upbringing. Work ethic or no work ethic, I am not going to follow in the footsteps of working until you can't enjoy stuff. My dad had a ton of stuff he wanted to do and died early so you gotta live life cause you never know when it will be over. What made you and your hubby retire early?
Peace,
Diva

Diva, we retired early for two reasons - first and foremost because we could, second....my husband has some health issues that made it time to enjoy life. We lived our first 30 years together working towards being able to retire "well" early enough to enjoy retirement.

I'm a grandma and I blog but I'm not retired so I guess I'm not a senior despite the fact that I am now a card-carrying member of the AARP!

To be honest, I can't wait to be able to move to a smaller place with less space to have to worry about. I rather think I'm going to look forward to living on my own though - to be honest - if the right guy ever came along I'd be more than happy to share my humble abode! Still, I'm not holding my breath for that one.

I could be wrong, but I think you join aarp now when you turn 50. Are you a senior? No way.

Well I'm not a grandmother and not retired, but older than you :) I don't consider myself a senior at all, not in any way.

We downsized in a way about 10 years ago. The house was much the same size, but far lass garden to look after, and we left the countryside to move into the town, so there would be less driving around. It's worked pretty well for us.

My mom, who will be 60 next year but is often mistaken for my older sister, always says "you're only as senior as you feel...and tell people you are."

My mother would have a stroke if someone called her a senior citizen. She's 54 and we constantly get asked if we're sisters. So, either she looks great or I look awful. LoL.

So no, being a grandma does not make you a senior!
