SezWho Affiliation with Entrecard

Hmmmm, I've spent way too much time on trying to understand SezWho today and I'm supposing I'm dumb as a box of rocks cause I just don't get it and I don't think mine is working right anyway. Needing to rate comments and such is going to take a good amount of time. I really would like to comment on more blogs but along with this it's going to take even more time............I dunno 'bout this.

I use haloscan and I don't know how to take it off...so I am stuck with it. I use dumb as a box of rocks all the time, that, and color me stupid! I agree with you, I don't think I have the time for rating comments..heck I don't even have the time to comment most days.

I don't think I want to do it. I really don't want peeps rating my blog posts or comments and I don't want to rate theirs. Now if it is a business blog or something and someone wants to do that, then yeah that is fine. But, as far as my personal life, it's mine and I don't want it rated. I am the one that lives it. Ya know what I mean MamaFlo?

I have been using SezWho for a while now, and it is actually something pretty helpful. It doesn't really add to my comment time because I usually skim through and read them anyway, so when I see something I like, I just give it a thumbs up. I most definitely don't rate every comment, just the ones that I personally enjoyed.

CelloBella said...

Thanks for raising this I spent a bit of time looking at Sezwho this morning too and left feeling undecided.

I think Entrecard has dropped off quite a lot anyway and I'm with Callie Ann - I don't want my life rated!!!

Anyway... I'll see how it goes for others I think...

oooh no, i saw this announcement. i don't think i will join. i don't want my comments following me around. lol i'll get my credits by buying or dropping.

Jolene said...

I haven't figured it out yet either, but then again I haven't really tried LOL. I added it but haven't got a clue what it's suppose to do for me.
I don't comment nearly as much as I would like, could be because half the time I just read blogs and am tired or in a daze and typing out a comment just seems like too much right then LOL. But I read and that's what counts right? LOL

I'm giving it the good old college try. Can always uninstall it if I don't like it. I'm not thrilled at all the ratings stuff, though.

On thing on comments unrelated to Sezwho. There's a cool feature in Blogger in Draft that lets you insert the comment box inside your actual page. I highly recommend this feature. Go to draft.blogger.com and log in to your dashboard. Under settings and comments you'll see an option for Comment Form Placement and select Embedded below post. Very simple and clean.

Yeah, I'm with you all on this one. I don't want my comments rated, or my posts. It just feels too much like waiting for a test back to see my grade, if you know what I mean. So far, I haven't seen any really good reason to put it on my blogs.

I did this embedded comment form on my blogs too. I love it! THIS is what invites comments!

MamaFlo said...

Because it doesn't ask for verification does this promote spam? I was dropping on a site this morning that had maniac rantings for pages (obviously spam). I've luckily only run into one issue with the spam and that was enough.

Mama Flo,

I've taken a lot of time and tried to be patient with Sez Who...there are a few issues:

1. It's not working with most blogger blogs, it does not work at all with Joomla platforms, and it is not yet working with WP 2.6 and some other platforms. In Blogger, If the rating system shows up, it shows up incorrectly in the posts, not the comments where it is intended.

2. With some themes/templates, it causes a fatal error with all versions of Internet Explorer, in which blogs don't load and IE needs to abort.

3. In firefox it causes a display error with other widgets that have been installed.

4. The more I'm reading about the issues, the more concerns I have.

5. I'm very disappointed that EntreCard has formed this partnership and rolled it out without thoroughly testing the software to make sure it would work on all blogs that participate in EntreCard.

6. As it does not work with all blogs on EntreCard, it is default discrimination and only selectively helps bloggers by awarding credits to rate comments and to arbitrarily decide what a superior comment is to an inferior comment.

7. I think this will definitely help some blogs get off to a good promotion start, but for established blogs with high quality content and an established readership that engage each other with quality comments as it is, the value is minimized.

8. It will result in some inferior blogs getting a greater share of advertising on EntreCard because they will get more credits from leaving comments everywhere and rating comments everywhere; but...

9. Ultimately it will result in a time suck for bloggers who already have too many demands on their time. Making use of EntreCard, maximizing Digg, installing this widget, that widget....ultimately, I Have an issue with someone else telling me what scripts I need to install on my blog that affect my load time.

Also, most bloggers create custom templates and themes. That a piece of software like sezwho is not robust enough to adapt to these themes is a deal breaker for me. If Digg and Share and reddit and technorati etc can do it, it shows that sezwho is being rolled out way too soon. I'm not going to alter my template to take advantage of a service that is not optimized to work on my blog. The goal should be for sezwho and any other script to adapt to the blog, not the otherway around.

There will be a post on my blog no later than Friday addressing commenting at length, and I hope you'll stop by to read and comment on my thoughts.

Cheers!

I activated the plugin, but deactivated this morning because I don't like that icon in my post nor do I like that popup. I hate popups. It's okay for comments, but not in my post and I didn't even think about someone rating my post aspect and I'm surely not going to rate comments I will just delete them if they are hello how are you type thing. When I leave a comment it's because I want to not for credit and I don't know that I want all my comments following me around either. I guess I would need to delete my blogs from Sezwho though to get rid of that, but I'm not sure what I'm going to do yet...Have a good one.

Hey there,
You've had some great comments already about this.
I was very hesitant to install this, so I thought about it overnight.
I decided to try it on my main blog: It's A Blog Eat Blog World and see, like people have said, if I don't like it I can remove it.
I have a pop-out comment box on Blogger, and this doesn't seem compatible. (It seems to rate my post rather than the comments) I like that, and am not ready to switch...
Also, I tried 3 times to upload a photo into my SezWho account, and it hasn't "taken"... and the generic little gameboard piece thingies drive me kind of nuts, after being used to seeing Blogger's profiles.
I jumped on board the Digg bandwagon as soon as Entrecard announced it, and I think I have a *fairly* decent blog, but so far only one of my posts has been "dugg" and that was by a good friend, so I'm dubious about SezWho.
I guess the bottom line for me is: I'm giving it a try, but have my finger on the drainplug...

And the word verification thingy here with the in-line blogger comments drives me nuts (this is me bitching...) I've tried it three times and can't get the *expletive deleted* slanty/slammed together verification jumble!
Aggggghhhhh!

I agree...this seems like it is going to take way too much time.

Dropped on you

MamaFlo said...

Until I can see some real value to SezWho, I have removed it from my blog.
If you find you have something to say and want to voice your opinion, go ahead and comment (of course I'll be happy) and don't feel I will rate your comments - I'm just thrilled to have you here at my blog.

kml said...

I put it on mine last night, and it isn't showing up like it is supposed to. I agree with Jude above - I do not like those pop-ups. I have intentionally kept them and any flashy, moving, singing, things off my blog. I will give it a few days to see if things settle down. Sounds like a great idea for more exposure, but not sure if I like the way it runs on my blog.

Hello,

I just discovered your kind comment on my blog on Blogexplosion. Thank you for this encouragement. And I guess, you will have a new visitor to your blog from now.

Take Care

Got mine up and a little bit of problems but I use wordpress so there may be another issue with yours. Also, if you comment on other blogs without sezwho, you still get traffic!!

Len said...

Hmmm... You couldn't get it work either, huh? I spent about an hour on it and finally gave up. I sure don't sure what the EntreCard folks see in it.

Babs (Beetle) said...

I finally have it installed on my three 'Blogspot' blogs. It all seems to be function fine, and doesn't conflict in any way with my own template designs. As to how useful it will be, I will have to wait and see. I agree that it seems to have been pushed out too soon, and could have done with more testing though.

MamaFlo said...

Changed my mind again - women have that prerogative or so I've been told.
I realized that I haven't really given it a chance. I see I'm still experiencing the same issues I was experiencing before I removed it - Damn!

I continue to be interested in your take with the service/system as the days ween on - I think this will be an ongoing saga both for the users and for Entrecard - How could you give us something less than perfect?

Michael Aulia said...

Well they are still having problems with the version and trying to fix it.

"Also, most bloggers create custom templates and themes. That a piece of software like sezwho is not robust enough to adapt to these themes is a deal breaker for me"
You can actually turn off the "automated" code insertion and insert the HTML codes manually (well at least in WordPress, I'm not sure in Blogger)

I haven't got it working yet on my blog, but I appreciate Entrecard's dream to not just deliver traffic

Nodin's Nest said...

I removed it from my blog too, It didn't come up on my comments, just on my posts and I hate the pop "Who am I?" Plus it slowed down my load time. I'm fine with people commenting because they want too. If they like my post they can Digg it, Stumble it ,etc or better yet, just come back. :)

Linda said...

Personally I just don't get it. I am NOT going to rate someone's comments - that's just ridiculous! Someone else mentioned that "bribing" people for comments isn't such a great thing either and I think I have to agree on that one, too.

I added the SezWho application but I am seriously debating on deactivating it. It's not like I ever do much with my ECs anyway!

What a conundrum!

The BenSpark said...

looks like yours is not working, there are some tutorials on the SezWho site that should be able to give you a step by step on how to do it. I just put my code in an HTML/Javascript box. That did the trick.

dani c said...

If it makes you feel any better. I don't get it either.

MamaFlo said...

As a matter of fact it does make me feel better that other people don't quite "get it" either. I'm hoping that either I'll see the light or just not give a rats ass in a couple days :).

Roxiticus Desperate Housewives said...

Hmmm....something seems to be different in your commenting area, but when I added SezWho to my Blogger blog, it looked different yet, including the opportunity to rate my content (and for others to rate my content) and, in some cases, the ability for me to rate my commenters' comments. I've already deleted SezWho since I didn't receive a single comment after installing it.

Just by reading all the comments, I am already learning a lot. I also felt SezWho has no use or whatsoever and yes, the popups are very annoying. I installed it today...until now, I don't see anything yet but probably will take it off. I go the usual drop and comment when I find the post nice...like yours.

Cheers!!

I tried it, totally screwed my comments up, I'm back to square one. No sezWho for me, at least right now.

Kim said...

I have it installed on all my blogs. I'm willing to get it a try. And as so many people have pointed out, if I don't like it, I can just rid of it.

AZ Blogging said...

SezWho messed up my blog's comments, but I still want to try it again. The principle behind it sounds very interesting. If you know your comment will be rated by someone, then I guess you will want to do more than just saying "Nice Post".

Iris said...

I think it's not working this time for entrecard, It's a wrong start and i think 98% of the community tried but with all the chaos bloggers never cared anymore. Comment will come anyway without any credits, and bloggers hates dictates (Don't you guys!?) i do.

hparis said...

I have it installed on my blog, but don't see how it will make any difference in my commenting habits as I Entresurf. When I see something of interest, I stop and comment or make a mental note to stop back later.

I don't like the SezWho rating system as it leaves you, your comments, and posts at the mercy of some meanie who might like to go around tanking people. I'm not a professional reporter, and my life is not so interesting that I would even classify anything on my blog as 5-star content, yet Entrecard's credit reward system is geared towards those who write "informative" or "educational" posts or comments. Even though the reward credits are just being given to the commenters, the type of post written dictates the type of comments left. This bias leaves out many of the Entrecarders who are in the Personal Diary or other personal type blogs. I get a crapload of comments on my "doggy" posts, but they're mostly one liners like "awww cute doggy!" Yet someone might come by and give that comment a 1-star rating. But the truth is, Buddy loves his fans, even the ones who leave one-liners. I'd hate to see these folks discouraged from coming by and commenting if it turns out some meanie is giving them low ratings.

Like I said, I have SezWho installed, but if it turns sour, I'll get rid of it.

MamaFlo said...

I love the people I've met and the blogs I read and other great blogs that come online everyday, I'm not interested in rating the comments left on those blogs, everyone is entitled to their own thoughts and who am I to say what comments are more important than others.
I've removed SezWho from my blog and unless something drastic happens it will stay off.

Thank you everyone for your fabulous opinions, thoughts, advice - every single word is appreciated and admired - THANKS!!

I am decidedly not going with this... The whole thing leaves a bad taste thats just begging the search engine "gods" to drop the axe and whack a lot of sites' PR to a maga fat ZERO.

I hear you on SezWho. As soon as the notice cawme out, I quickly installed it on four blogs and thought it was working (well, it looked pretty!), but after a day or two it abruptly disappeared from each of them! Guess I'll have to do it all over again :-( Still sounds like a great idea though.

Henson Ray said...

I'm not sure how I feel about SezWho yet. I put it on for a day, and then didn't like the fact that the rating is set at 2.5 as a default. Even for all my posts in the past. I know 2.5 is supposed to be average, but why not keep it blank until you get a comment? Not sure I'm going to buy into this.

SunEGrl said...

As an avid dropper who does actually take the time to read posts, I don't like it. It takes entirely too long to read the blogs because it says Waiting for Sezwho.
