Changing Entrecard Dropping Habits

I've found that I'm just not a very happy person trying to drop 900 ECs a day, I like lingering on blogs and reading, I like having a life outside of EC, and I definitely need to give some attention to my housework and my husband (and oh yeah, I have guests in from CA right now and we haven't seen them in more than a year).
I have almost always dropped from favorites or bookmarks and recently I've started dropping from my inbox, although it's allowed me to find some new and interesting blogs, I don't like being surprised by hearing music - STOP WITH THE MUSIC, then there are the blogs where it takes forever for them to load (and I'm using 4gb Ram so my computer is super quick), or it takes forever to find the EC because it's hidden amoungst all the advertising. When I dropped from my favorites most of the blogs had their EC right up at the top of their blog, there was no music to contend with, and most of the blogs loaded quickly. This week I have turned in 2 hard core porn sites (and I'm no prude but I saw stuff I can't even describe here - like OMG!!!!!!!)

I won't be dropping at all during this weekend when we're going to Houston for Rudy's Christianing, and then I won't drop for 2+ weeks the beginning of October when we're on our cruise............guess it's time to start changing my dropping habits now.

To all my regular droppers, and those who purchase space for their Entrecard on my blogs - Thank You Very Much, you have no idea how much I appreciate your support and friendship.

To be honest, I'm not really sure what, if anything, Entrecard is doing for my blog. Have I picked up an occasional new reader or two? I think so, yes, but it turns out that those new readers are people who also read the blogs in my regular circle and they may have become new readers anyway.

Seems to me that most EC'ers just stop by, drop, and then run without staying to read never mind post a comment and if that's what it's all about then really - who cares? Does a lot of traffic make a lot of difference if people aren't reading what you're writing?

What does a lot of traffic mean anyway unless you're doing paid posts and are hoping to get your Google Page Rank up so that they can shoot it down so that you then lose that Page Rank?

There's a lot here I don't understand so basically I just drop at those blogs that I normally visit at anyway and then let it go at that. I don't "make rounds" and I try not to jump from one blog to another just to drop a card. That's not why I started blogging and that's not the kind of blogger I want to be. I'm seriously considering just saying good-bye to Entrecard and just going back blogging the old-fashioned way!

Of course those are just my thoughts from my soapbox! Enjoy your guests while they are here!

I drop what I can when I can and go from there, I cannot spend all day dropping EC, but I think I am seeing some new readers and more traffic.
I like to stop and read a blog and get to know people. I think EC turns people from enjoying a blog.

Hmmm.... I'm not sure really. I do find this frantic dropping a bind. I do like reading and commenting as I go. Then I find it takes me forever to drop on all of my in box. With three blogs it's a nightmare. I also find (as Linda said) that most of my readers also read the same blogs I read. I might just keep one blog going, and stop dropping for the other two.

I think Linda is right on so many counts. If you are a new blogger it helps get the word out that you are their and I like that and I have found so many wonderful blogs I like because of Entrecard.

But past that like Linda said who cares about page rank and so forth I blog because I like to blog, you get caught up in trying to keep up with it all and it is not fun and takes alot of time.

Thanks Linda for the reality check!

I've altered my dropping habits a lot lately. I do like dropping from my inbox and I take the time to stop and read the blogs I drop on. If I don't get to everyone, oh well. I like dropping from my inbox because I like looking at new blogs. That's mainly why I do it, to find new blogs to read. But I no longer worry about dropping if I do great, if not, uh life goes on :)

I normally drop from my inbox as well. I don't drop cards like I used to but I have found a lot of new blogs through entrecard so I am quite happy with the experience.

I hear ya, Deb...I wrote about this same thing the other day, remember? EC was taking over my daily life!!! Now, I drop on my favs and will try to do my inbox if I have time but, dammit, I'm reading and not just mindlessly dropping to hit that magical 300 anymore...and it feels much, much better.

I'd rather have 5 regular READERS than 300 droppers any day, know what I mean?

Nevermind, I know that you do...we're long lost sisters, remember? LOL

Oh, and don't worrya bout the breaks coming up...I, for one, will still be here, dropping and patiently waiting for your return. *smile*

I am also in the process of changing my EC habits. Yes, I will still drop cards daily but I won't go for the maximum number of drops now. I also love to linger and read entries, especially those that catch my attention :)

Happy weekend!

I have loved EC! I have come across blog such as yours that I try to read daily. As far as dropping, that is a different story. I try to drop from my inbox. I just enjoy stopping and reading. Wouldn't it be neat if you had to actually show proof that you read at least 15 blogs a day and posted a comment. Think about how many bloggers you would get to know that way.

As far as having a life, blogging can take it over. Isn't that a crazy concept. Oh well, I love it anyway.

I was using fast drops because I wanted the credits, but now I've started dropping from my Inbox because these droppers are the faithful few and let's face it,we all have enough to do as it is without dropping on those who never return the drop.
I do the "scrolling link box" on other peoples sites and also drop on THESE DROPPERS because I know they respond.
I get slowed down because I end up reading posts. I think EC is good It gets you traffic, but dropping can take over your life. If people comment I usually follow them and drop. Kinky!;-)
Blogging is important to me I've made friends that way.Dropping can send you gaga I just do what I can.

I think it's great every now and then, but don't let it take over the things you love to do online like commenting and reading your friends and favorite sites -- i don't think your need them anyway because you're such a swettie and you made a lot of friends online hehehe! and that's important to get a readers, friends and connections. Enjoy your cruise, i can't wait to see photo's and lots of them and of course read story of how things going.

I promise i have no music playing and my page loads pretty quickly. So if yo want to have a look it's all good. I try to make sure I always leave a comment when dropping my card but seeing how much your is I am just going to comment...

Same here. Since I got hooked on dropping cards and tasted how it feels to be at the top, I've realized life have gone a little miserable for me, haha! I forgot the other things I loved to do such as reading and commenting on interesting articles.

Now I don't care much how I fare but I still do complete the 300 drops daily. I hope my pages are quick to load from there.

I will still be coming back here everyday on your page because it has been a habit that's so hard to break. I never missed coming back here and I intend to continue even when you're on vacation.

Enjoy!

I want to thank you for continuing to drop by my site. I am thankful to EC because it is how I discovered your site, among others that have now become my favorites. I do know that it can be very time consuming though to reap the benefits that EC can offer.
BTW, I accidentally advertised on a site with music today and I won't even go click on my own ad! :-D

I will still be here, whether you can come by or not. I have never tried to drop more than 50 or so cards a day because I don't use EC to increase traffic, but to find new blogs to read. I can't give it up because I might miss someone really cool!

I've been only on for about 11 days now. I've dropped consistantly, but figured I would figure out what I wanted to do with it.

There are those that actively participate in my blog, and I comment and enjoy theirs and others.

For me, using Entrecard opened up alot of new GOOD blogs out there and I'm happy for it.

This week I'm slowin' down in the dropping through. I'll drop on those that drop on me and search for new folks, but I enjoy taking time to participate in folks' blogs and I won't have droppin' take over that fun.

:)

Glad to have found you!

I understand where you are coming from, I have tried to keep up with card dropping from only 1 blog, but I like to read the blogs I visit I don't always comment but I do read...and I find it takes me too much time. Stuff at home was being neglected, so now I am keeping up with my life at home and then my blogging next. When more time permits then I will spend more time on the computer. I drop from both favorites and inbox. I do like visiting here.

good for you. i dont know how you did it. i'm here this morning to drop and comment on my favorites, but hey, it's time consuming. someone on your last post said dropping 300 takes 1/2 hour...not me...takes 1.5. i will drop, i find some cool blogs that way, but the 300 goal is out.

i hate the freaking music on blogs, freaking hate it.

Broadway Matron said...

As a warning, I have music on my blog - you can quickly scroll down and shut it off - but that said - I have about 8 or 9 blogs I read every day and I drop on them and I go to the blog itself, if it looks interesting I will read several posts - actually that's how I got the 8 or 9 that I read every day. I only comment when I have something to add. I really don't see the point to just saying "I was here". There have been times when my reaction to a posting was negative and I will NOT post a negative comment.

I don't see EC as some kind of competition or even game. EC has introduced me to people who have now become a part of my daily life - I would never have found them otherwise.

So I like EC because it has broadened my on-line friends and that's all I really need it for...new people, new ideas, lots of laughs - a good part of my day

This is why i drop from my favorites list now and then i make up the rest of my 300 by going to the entrecard toolbar, choose a category i like and then i choose newest members and check them out while dropping on them.

Generally newer members don't have all that crap on their page. I know people like to express themselves and such, but if you want drops, don't make it a chore. If I have to scroll, I leave. I comment on alot of blogs and I can't say that Entrecard didn't help me. It did. I get comments where i didn't before and I get the traffic I need to increase my page rank.

I LOVE blogging but as i said somewhere else, I am not a bit shamed that i do paid posts. I'm putting 2 kids through college and preparing 2 more for it. If someone wants to PAY me to do something I love, who the heck am I to say no? BUT, in that vein.....i could make ALOT more with sponsored ads and such and I will never ever do that to my readers. They should never have to close an ad to see what i have to say. I don't drop on those either anymore.

It's a shame too because i know i may be missing great blogs, but if it takes forever to just see them, they obviously don't need or want readers too bad.

I want blogging to be enjoyable
