We have a service that comes and treats our lawn (it's better than messing with/and storing the chemicals ourselves), it's pricey and it hasn't been doing the job. We've called them back when the weeds continued to show up in large amounts, they would come back out and treat again, but now it's happened yet again with the weeds showing back up and I called one final time - stop the service!!! The woman tried offering me anything and everything until I told her in no uncertain terms, if the weed killer didn't work, what else is not working that you've treated for and I've paid for - I want the service stopped!!
If you want to give your customer something, give them what they paid for and stop apologizing when you don't deliver, take responsibility for your crappy service.
I find that we're having to make these kind of calls more and more often when you would think with the dwindling economy that business owners would do the work personally if that's what it would take to satisfy a customer and keep their business.

I believe that companies don't care anymore and want to push the blame elsewhere instead of owning up to the issue. You know, sweep it under the rug, etc. etc....
The sad part.. This probably isn't your last complaints call... =)
Sadly, customer service is just not what it used to be. And that's just downright sad.
We had a mowing service and TruGreen. Between the two of them, they destroyed my lawn. It was green, lush, and weed free before we hired them. My went back to work every other weekend so I had to watch the kids..she figured it was a good idea so she hired them.
The mowing service was using some kind of chemical around the house, fences, and landscaping bricks that killed the grass - rather than weed-whacking it. Whatever chemicals the lawn service was using, it wasn't for my type of lawn, so it killed a lot of it.
Needless to say, I fired both companies and took over myself. It's been 4 months, but, my lawn is finally green, lush, and weed free again. I had to thatch the entire lawn, sod in some places, seed in others, plus putting the correct fertilizers and pesticides. I figured with the amount I spent to get it back in shape, I saved the cost of hiring those services for 5 months.
The mowing service didn't really care why I fired them. TruGreen kept having some senior manager calling and hounding me trying to get me back as a customer. While it appears they cared, it was more about getting my dollars back. I had to threaten to report them for harassment after the 4th call before they stopped calling me.
I had a similar issue with Allied Waste Services not picking up my trash week after week.
I'm sorry to hear about the problems. I'm glad though to know I'm not the only one that thinks customer service lately stinks! I feel like the guy that comes out and treats my lawn has absolutely no pride in his work. He could care less. So, we still have a ton of weeds.
The manager of the company should have come out to your house for a consultation.
Sad that customer service isn't a priority for them.
As a small business owner, I try to go above and beyond for my customers.
Hope that the next company you contact is more customer-oriented.
shoot, you're right. in this economy anything that's not in the fridge or in the gas tank is extra. they better be glad you still have them. the would've been the first to been cut.
You're right, customer service has gone down hill badly. It was poor customer service that made me quit my job and start my own company. I was tired of hearing complaints from my customers of the other people in the office being rude or incompetent.
It is said that the Millenial generation is causing problems for employers because of their entitlement complex, but I think it started long before this generation was born. I'm of Generation X and my office is mostly people around my age, but they all act like the only thing they are supposed to do to get paid, is show up! and of course my boss was giving THEM raises!
It's true, customer service is generally poor everywhere, that's when you can get a human to complain to...
there are so many options to press through on the phone and even then sometimes you can't get the human..
Very frustrating!
It's the same in the UK. No such thing as real customer service any more. They don't seem to care.
They old saying 'If you want a job done well, do it yourself' rings true!
We just started having a service treat our lawn this year and while it looks better than it has in a long time, our weeds are still fighting back, too. They told us that we've had so much rain here this spring and summer that the weeds are really tough to get rid of. It's frustrating to me because if I go out and buy the big bottle that attaches to my hose, I bet those weeds would be gone in a week tops! Ugh. I feel your pain.
A lawn! You have a lawn! What utter luxury. With no water, and a hefty fine if I turn on the hose, my lawn died at least 8 years ago and, you know, the indigenous plants that took its place (birds must have dropped the seeds)is just so much nicer.
Ir looks better and needs no maintenance whatsoever.
Is there some kind of ground cover that you could put in to replace your lawn?
It truly is sad how little work ethic is being reflected in some of these businesses. Quantity is outweighing quality.
My husband told me these services aren't good, that they don't do a good job because they just hurry through to get to their next stop. Fortunately, he enjoys taking care of the yard himself so I don't have to. He keeps it looking good.
Our neighbors across the street have a lawn service come and last summer they messed it up big time! I think they over fertilized it.
Customer Service sucks most everywhere I go these days from a department store to a boutique store to the grocery store and fast food and even eat in places.
I saw a TV special though about the kids that are becoming adults and these young adults said - "this is the way it's going to be and if you don't like it, tough, you hire me or you fail because our entire generation feels this way" - OMG, my husband and I were stunned, flabbergasted, how in the world has the world gotten to this? I sure didn't raise my children this way.
We are not allowed where I live to buy any kind of chemicals for the lawn.....no Raid, no bug poisons...NOTHING...none for sale here.
Leaving everything to itself is working really well,,nature seems to control her bugs best
the bad part too is it seems that it's most often businesses like this and exterminators that do this. Their service " sort of " works but seldom REALLY does the job, thatway you keep calling them back.
