Houston & Hurricane Ike

My Son, his lovely wife, and my Grandson Rudy live in Houston and they have decided to stay in Houston. We are not thrilled with this decision but we have no choice but to accept their decision. My son is a doctor and is essential medical personnel, my DIL and Rudy don't want to leave him there alone.............
The scariest part of this is that they have a concrete waterway behind their home and their street becomes a raging river when they have simple heavy rain.
Please pray for the safety of those anywhere near the coasts that will/are being affected by IKE.

This hurricane is huge at almost 1,000 miles large.

I'm in SA and although we may get some wind and rain, we won't get anything close to what people in other places of Texas and the coast in general will sustain.

I feel bad for all those people around the gulf facing this hurricane. I am so glad I live in Ohio and don't need to deal with these things, at least not yet. I know our Houston office closed today because of it but the email said they expect to be open on Monday. We'll see.

I just spoke with my DIL and she said they are ready for what they believe they'll experience. She reminded me not to over-react - ME???
I'm a mother and grandmother, I'm going to be worried.

Thank you friends for your words of comfort and your prayers.

Oh, Deb,
I know Houston well and as my daughter just went through Gustav, I know how you feel with your family in harm's way. Will be watching and thinking of you.

I will most certainly keep your son and his family in my prayers. I think all of us here in Texas are keeping a close eye on Ike.

My prayers are with your family, too. There are some that I'm worried about in the Houston area as well. While they won't get the storm, they are still going to be in for a rough 12 hours or so, I'm hearing.

My son has been asking all kinds of questions, trying to understand what a hurricane is and is having a hard time grasping what it is.

Good luck, keep us posted on how your family is doing!

In the last few years the amount of earthquakes, hurricanes, typhoons, floods and general disasters etc appears to be getting more frequent. The worst thing is that we are constantly being told that it is all due to our own making. (We shouldn't keep getting into the car, switching on the lights or anything else.)A heavy responsibility to know that much of the many problems are apparently down to man using the resources of the planet. We all like to think that one day that someone will sort it out.

I hope that your son, his wife and your precious grandson will all remain safe ... let us all hope that everyone keeps safe.

Prayers and blessings for everyone in Houston, I was just watching the news and it wasn't pleasant to hear, but I'm sure your son knows how to protect himself and his family and make sure everything is secure. God bless you all.

My heart is in my throat waiting to hear if your family is OK. I've been glued to the TV since getting out of bed ... I hope you hear something real, real soon.

I want to thank all my blogging friends for their prayers and love. I heard from my son and they made it through the worst of the storm in one piece. He was able to call with his iPhone and said he still had internet service - weird huh?
The water around their property is high but not inside the house. They had some broken tree limbs of significant size but nothing hit the house (that they know of).
Of course they have no power but have plenty of food, water, fuel in their vehicles.
Of course if it takes many days or even weeks for the power to get turned on, I'm sure they will be miserable but they should be fine.

I know your prayers made a difference - THANK YOU!!!!

I feel your pain. Just finished dealing with Gustav myself, and my sister, her family, and best friend all live in Houston.

Hope your family is safe and sound!

Have you heard from your family in Houston? I pray for the best for them.
Our area was devastated by Hurricane Hugo in 1989. These large storms are so amazing.

Whew! What a relief. I was thinking about you and your family this morning while watching the news coverage. We had our own set of storms and a tornado warning last night. Glad everyone is fine.

I'm pleased to hear that they are okay. It's amazing how close we all feel to each other in this world of technology. It makes us feel each others pain and joy, fears and relief.

It is great to think that you could keep in touch with your family from so far. I hope that they'll soon have power restored especially with your grandson being so young.

Oh MamaFlo, thanks for posting the update on your son and his family. I have been restless for a days. I last heard from my folks last Friday. My folks are in Houston right now and they were anticipating the worst that time, did all the preparation your son and his family did. It could be worse. Your son is blessed to still have internet access, despite the absence of electricity.

God bless you and your family! Btw, I dropped my EC as usual. :-)

Glad to hear you are doing ok, long time no talk :).

How are they doing now? Do they have power yet? Did their house hold up okay?
