How Did I Survive Raising Two Children?

We are still in H-Town babysitting for Rudy while his Daddy works and his Mommy is out of town on business. We got here on Tuesday and we are headed back home tomorrow (Saturday), thank goodness, I'm exhausted!!!!
It's not by happen chance that it's young women that bear children.........my back is killing me, I'm suffering from much less sleep than I'm used to, and Rudy wriggles all over me. His Daddy has taught him how to lean back, actually he forces his body backwards and expects someone to hold him/catch him.
Rudy probably weighs in at about 20 pounds.

I'm so glad we came and babysat, I'm so glad that I had this quality and quantity of time to spend with my little boy, to get to know him and him us. He is the very best of everyone, and he is going to be a handful plus and give us all the greatest joy we could experience.

I'd love to hear from other GrandParents on the best way to handle everything :)

This sounds right. I don't think it was any different for me. My grand babies are now 17 and 11 so they are a delight to be with. When they were little they ran me around too. It's just part of them being little.

Enjoy your solitude tomorrow. You will embrace it for sure. I know I always did. Big hug. :)

I adore my grandson but being with him all the time (he and his mother live with us) is so exhausting and tries my patience in ways you can't imagine. I love him so much...and want to pinch his head off at the same time. LOL

You had a blast with Rudy...now it's time to recover, huh? LOL

They say that for grandparents, the best holiday lights are tail lights, when the grandkids are leaving.

Sorry, not much help. My wife and I have a 19 month old, who daily gives us quite a workout!

Aw, what a cutie pie. I have no advice. Just enjoy. He'll grow up so fast. :)

Little Rudy is so precious! My 19-month-old has that same toy Rudy is playing with in the picture and loves it. I can relate to what you're saying about being exhausted. My little one wears us all out. He's busy busy busy!

As I said in my last comment, I am not a Grandpa yet and guess that I have to wait for some more years. But I can confirm the question of your post. And thinking about how my wife and I raised the children, I am sure that we will be confronted with similar issues as you. Once we have grand children.

I dont think you need to teach them that trick of falling backwards. My son does that all the time. Keeps everyone on their toes. He thinks its hilarious.

We're back home from our visit with Rudy and this Grandma is Sick! Rudy sounded sick to me when we arrived but over the course of the next few days we both worsened. My exhaustion and soreness wasn't all being "old" but rather being sick. I have no voice (my husband is loving this), sore through and plenty of thick phlem. I understand when my Son and Rudy picked up Mommy from the airport they headed straight to the ER (yes my son is a doctor but not a pediatrician) because Rudy's eyes became snotty. I'm waiting to hear how Rudy is doing and what the doctor said.

I remember that whole leaning back ordeal with my own girls at that age - I thought mine were the only ones.

Rudy is such a cutie! I hope you get a nap though soon - my parents both take a nap after a night and morning with the twins over.

Sweetie, I can't give you any advice. I didn't get the joy of being able to be a grandparent...I got the...be a parent again job.

Not yet a grandparent nor even a parent yet but I have had the experience of taking care of my niece and twin nephews while my sister and her husband went for a short trip. Talked about exhausted? Hey, exhaustion is not the entitlement of grandparents; I was totally exhausted too. For the 3 days, I had to watch the 3 kids of 4 and 2 year old almost every seconds. However, I can agree with you on another thing you mentioned; they definitely gave me the greatest joy too. :)

It's great that you've been able to spend this quality time with your grandson because they grow up so fast!

I'm not a grandparent myself, but my best friends are and they enjoy what grandparents do best - spoiling their grandchildren.

I am not a GrandParent...but my Mom lives next door to us. And she always says that while she loves the grandkids to pieces, she sure is glad when they go home. Only mine run back and forth constantly so they go home from her house often...only they often come back. LOL

We were younger, less experienced and had a lot more energy when our kids were babies! I know that although I don't have grandkids yet, my nephew and the neighbor kids are exhausting!
