The local news at 10:00pm tonight told the story of 20 juvenile sex offenders that are in middle school and high school and the school districts are not informing the parents of the other children in school with these criminals.
The schools say because the offenders are juveniles that they are not compelled to inform the parents of the other children.
Problem is that some of these offenders are beginning to re offend.
What's your thoughts on this subject?
Should the school districts inform parents when they have a known sex offender attending school in one of their schools, should age matter?
MY OPINION - the law is the law, criminals are criminals, regardless of their age. Maybe if these kids knew that everyone would know who they were and what they had done they would think twice before committing these crimes in the first place.

Wow, that's a toughie but, for me, it boils down to the safety of the many vs. the "rights" of the few so, yes, I believe the parents of the children SHOULD be told. I know I'd want to be told if it were my kids being thrown in with the offenders.
Just a bad situation all the way around, wouldn't you say? And what is your opinion?

If you are talking high school students as the offenders and young children as the victims, then I would say "yes" the parents have a right to know. It might be another story if it is high school student offenders and high school student victims--then it is a little less clear. Boy, this is a tough one. I'm trying to think how I would feel as a parent of either the offender child or the victim child.
The parents have the right to know. It is their children that are running the risk of being victims. They have a right to know. Period. It's the parents job to protect their children, not the school in this case. Have a great day. :)
Oh, my. That would make me pull my kids out of school. Seriously. We'd become a homeschool family.
I think every parent should be made aware of anything bad or offensive that happens to their child while in school.
As to age it is a gray line there as far as prosecution.
I mean some school districts are starting to prosecute 6 year old kids as sex offenders.
Oh my I think at 6 or younger we are looking more at a curiosity thing like.."You show me yours and I'll show you mine"!
But, I only feel this way if both of the children are the same very young age.
Still parents should be informed so that they can speak with their children. but, I think to label two 5 or 6 year old as sex offenders is a little bit of an over kill.
I know when I was 4 or 5 we played DR. and stuff. Now in this time that would be considered as a sex offense in some states.
Just my personal opinion!!:-)
