wow people take a lot of drugs for anxiety! I have panic attacks often. They would be much worse if I didn't take blood pressure medication -- all I take is atenolol. It slows down the heart rate, slows blood pressure, making it very physically difficult to have a strong panic attack. It can still happen and does, but they are not as bad. I tried some anxiety medications and they made me either zombie-like or more depressed.

Since the meds for the panic attacks was so horrible my PCP started me on Pristiq (from the Effexor family which I took some years ago for awhile). This antidepressant has it's share of side effects like a fuzzy feeling head, severe sweating of my head, nausea, and insomnia. Of course I went online to read about this drug and it's side effects more and for most people it seems like these side effects will subside in the coming weeks (I know it takes approximately 2 weeks for an antidepressant to build up to the effective level).
Getting older and having some health issues sure sucks!

Ahh... I had to comment, as I can truly relate. Over the past year, I've been battling anxiety issues. I've taken all of the meds you have mentioned.... and like someone else had said, it took a lot of trial and error to find the right "coctail" that helped me....

I currently take xanax for the anxiety, and Effexor for the depression.... It helps.... most days....

I take Adderall for A.D.D. - about 2 years ago I switched to Vyvance...made me MEANER than a hornet. Funny thing, my daughter switched at the same time and it is so much better for her!

Almost all meds have pluses and minuses...what works for one doesn't another. Trial and error, which can be frustrating when you're the one who needs the meds.

I know sometimes the side effects of the meds are not desirable. Hubby was on one a long time ago and I could not stand him! No emotions at all, just shuffling through life. I was so glad when he went off it. Now I can not stand the joking all the time, lol. Oh well it's better than the zombie:-)

They prescribed some heavy-duty meds for anxiety attacks. I would think they would start smaller and work up the list! I take bupropion (the generic of Wellbutrin) and though it helps, the generic is really not the same as the brand.

Anyway, as someone else said, I do the same and take a book when I go to the doctor's office. Best wishes for a smooth recovery.

I hate taking any meds - it always seems that they create more problems than they solve. I hope they find a med that works for you. Perhaps there is some holistic method that might help with the panic attacks even better than meds.

I always see commercials advertising medicine for one thing and then listen to the whole long list of possible side affects that are usually worse than what the medicine is for in the first place.

My dad dealt with this issue a lot--the medication he was on at one point made him so drowsy all the time he actually even fell asleep one day while he was shaving--fortunately he was sitting down while doing it. Another time he fell asleep while cleaning a litter box and fell off the chair!

I always take a book along to read anytime I go to a Dr. office since I don't think they know how to tell time or schedule appointments realistically. Just this week I had to wait over an hour for my 3:15 appointment that I rushed to get to--I could have finished my set of tennis!

I'm glad you are off those pills. Yikes. When I quit smoking some years back the doctor gave me Wellbutrin and it eventually did the same thing to me. It took about 6 months though. I also lost 30 pounds on it too. Sigh. I felt lots better once I got off that stuff though. I can so relate to how you were feeling.
